Hana and her digimon - recently evolved to a Dracomon - strode into the main hallway of the arena. She was excited. This was going to be their first fight since his digivolution, and Dracomon seemed to be pretty excited as well. He'd tempered down on the obnoxiousness since he had digivolved, and it was no small relief to her! They were getting along ever so slightly better, and for once she wasn't ready to drown him in the pond of the park where they had set up camp and were living from.
For once.
She tied up her hair out of the way and glanced up at the screens displaying the matches and win/loss ratios. She had registered the day before and had come in a bit early to check out her opponent's stats. Reighleigh, huh? With a Nyaromon? Well, that seemed handy. A level lower meant that Dracomon was going to have a bit of andvantage. I think I'll be able to take him on! His response to the screen was enthusiastic, and she couldn't help but roll her eyes a bit. He was still a tad narcissistic, but it was a small price to pay for being able to fight in the arena.
Hana herself decided to head to the competitors area. "Come on, Fang! You gotta be there to win, right?" Her digimon followed her rather obediently at that statement. her eyes scanned the crowd, seeing regular civilians and competitors that had been named on the screens that she'd fought recently. But her eyes also caught sight of someone that seemed vaguely familiar, but not because they'd fought recently. It seemed that she'd known him a while ago, but couldn't place it.
She stopped and stared at him in confusion, wondering why on earth he seemed familiar and where he'd met him. In the meantime, Dracomon stood next to her and complained about how she wasn't moving and why wasn't she moving, wanting to get to the ring and get fighting. He wanted to win and show off how awesome he was with his new digivolution.

Berach huffed and rolled his eyes, glaring up at the screen announcing his opponent -- Yamato, with a Dracomon.
Equivalent match-ups, my ass, he thought, glancing down to where Kafka rested in the crook of his arm. The Nyaromon slept lightly, his striped tail wound loosely around Berach's arm -- Berach would freely admit to finding the creature adorable: He was. He just wasn't likely to win this fight, and Ber wasn't afraid to let Kafka know.
"Better man up and evolve for this one, Kaf," he grunted, jostling the tiny digimon awake, "Don't want you bein' kicked around by this punk."
Kafka blinked, slowly, ears twitching as he yawned. "Well maybe if you fed me more, I'd digivolve more easi-"
"You ate all of my cereal this morning, Kafka. All of it. And an entire loaf of bread -- and the ham! I'd only just bought that, you know."
The Nyaromon was quiet for a moment, then peered up at his tamer with large, watery eyes. "But I'm hungryyy~"
With a sigh, Berach set the digimon on the ground to bounce along beside him (and that would never not be funny). "Whatever," he grunted, dismissive, and nudged the digimon towards the entrance to the arena.
He caught the girl's stare after a brief moment, and gazed back at her, blankly, shoulders slouched. After a few long seconds of awkward blinking contest, he offered her a wave -- but she did seem awfully familiar, where had he met her before? -- and pushed Kafka again with his toe.
"C'mon, time to fight. We got this if you pay attention," he muttered, briefly looking his digimon over before returning his gaze to Hana.
"Nice dracomon," he jeered, "Where'd you get it, from your mom?" (Oh, no, wait he was supposed to be ~nice~.) "Raleigh," he introduced himself with a slightly-more-polite nod, "I know you from somewhere?"

Hana's eyebrow raised at the wave. Everything about him screamed laziness, from how he slouched to his clothes to.... EVERYTHING. And it bugged her to no end. His little jeer made her smile, though. It was a rather lame insult and she was hardly angered by it. Actually, she was feeling rather amused by it all - it was an open challenge to both her directly and her sensibilities. And her Digimon, who decided to take direct insult.
You lowly slob! You miserable toad! Fang's insults were less than insulting as well - he took his cues from Shakespearean dramas and Arthurian legends. Not always the most intimidating by today's standards. She nudged him to shush him.
If only she could shake the idea that she was supposed to recognize the man who was challenging her!
"Hana," she introduced herself in reply. Raleigh... Raleigh... she wracked her brain trying to recognize him. From the family business? No, what on earth would he be doing here? But being in the arena seemed familiar. His digimon seemed familiar. And that meant.... "Pandora!" She snapped her fingers in delight. "You're Raleigh from Pandora! The lazy slob! I remember you!" She was absolutely delighted with remembering. There were very few faces that ever stuck in her mind, so he had to be rather memorable for her to take notice.
And she had most definitely noticed. Her smile turned to a frown again as she looked him over. "Haven't changed much, I see." Her hands started to rise up to his shoulders, thinking to straighten him up a bit like she had made her more gravity-challenged family members do, then realized that would be overstepping her boundaries. Her lips quirked up into a wry smile. "Then again, that slouch is why I remember you. You're practically my height when you do it!"
Her eyes slid to his Digimon. "Think you have a chance against me? We seemed pretty even last time we went head to head, but seems like I'll have the advantage. I HAD been considering betting on my opponent, but seeing this..." Her smile had gone full-on mischievous. She rather enjoyed that her discipline and forwardness had gotten her digimon digivolved, and that it might show Raleigh up.

Oh, no. He did know her from somewhere -- she was going to want to chat and catch up, he could see the light of recognition blooming in her eyes:
"You're Raleigh from Pandora! The lazy slob! I remember you!"
He rolled his eyes and opened his mouth to reply, but the retort drawn to his lips was silenced by Kafka's eager voice: "He's not a slob! You're a slob!"Berach smiled, unwilling, and glanced over at the Nyaromon -- the little monster was really starting to grow on him. "Little dude is right, you know. I'm just... calm, yeah? I'm not messy." (Alright, maybe he was a little messy. But that had nothing to do with the conversation at hand, so he refused to admit to anything. It's not as though it made him strange to never clean his apartment, right?) Crossing his arms over his chest, he sized up the opposing Dracomon, giving a slow nod to show his approval. "Yeah, I remember back when he was little. Congratulations," he offered, "But, I mean. ... Aren't you worried about --" He lowered his voice, glanced around as though nervous, and leaned closer to Hana: "Aren't you worried about how ugly he is?" Leaning back, he shook his head sadly and oh-so-respectfully returned his gaze to the arena. "Don't worry, I'll go easy on you. Wouldn't want him to get embarassed and lose to a Nyaromon..."Kafka took the hint and bounce-hop-rolled into the arena, tail bristling and ears plastered back against his skull. "C'mon, then! I'll bite your legs off!"ooc|| wow, my posts are pretty short, um. :I i'm sorry. couldn't get more without rambling and i don't wanna do that -- if i ever don't give you enough to comfortably work with, plz tell me so i can try and fix it. i hate being THAT partner[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Hana couldn't keep an amused smile off her face as she listened to him and his Digimon refute her statement. It was all coming back to her - he was indeed quite a character. And while it drover her up a wall, she couldn't help but find him rather funny. His little snark about Dracomon's looks actually gave her the need to hide her unladylike snort of laughter; Dracomon would have killed her if she'd actually laughed! He was such a conceited little thing that she couldn't help but think it was funny to hear him insulted. Though her eyes were narrowing at the challenge that he was presenting.
This was going to be interesting, indeed.
She and Dracomon followed, Dracomon bristling and ready to give it his all, Hana excited to see what challenge Raleigh would give her. Thankfully, she had money on both of them. Just in case.
The arena held about 50 people altogether - a relatively small number, but this also wasn't that much of a match. Hana took her position at one end of the arena, and glanced down at Dracomon to see if he was as ready as she was. That artless beef-witted coxcomb! He has no idea the Digimon he just insulted! I shall beat him AND his digimon into the ground! Hana snickered a little . "Better just go after his digimon. We'll be ejected if you go after Raleigh! And we want a chance to go after him again, riiiight?"
Dracomon grumbled but agreed, preparing as the announcer gave their names and stats.
And then the battle began.

Hana smirked at his commentary -- always a good sign -- and his own smile grew, warring with his conjured expression of false solemnness. The grin only grew as they took their places: Dracomon growled his dissent (and threatened to attack Raleigh, oh my), and Kafka, yet again, eagerly moved to defend him.
"My Ber isn't a co- ... Coxcomb? THAT'S NOT A REAL WORD, DUMMY." He turned, oh-so-smug and endlessly proud of his quick-witted comeback, to search Raleigh's approval. And he recieved it, in the form of a nod and a grin -- he puffed out his 'chest' and turned his glare back on Fang.
"Alright, Kaf, go for it," he called, announcing the start of the battle. He knew full well Hana was allowing him time to move first, some noble sentiment that drove people to allow the weakest a head start. It drew an uncomfortable sneer to his lips; made him wish for half a second that he devoted more time to training Kafka... But he knew damn well that would drain whatever fun there was left in it, and he barely concealed a sigh.
Kafka, for all his eagerness to please, didn't notice the dissapointment that flashed across Berach's features, and he bared his teeth at Fang; a feral mockery of a smile. He was the biggest, baddest, most fearsome thing ever to emerge from the digital world and he was here to prove it. His tail puffed up, fur becoming jagged and wirey, and he hissed in Fang's direction.
"Fox tail!," he cried, hopping forward: He curled in on himself as he reached the apex of his bounce, throwing himself into a rapid spin, tail spined and biting as it circled him. He aimed the trajectory of his fall to coincide with the Dracomon, hoping to get a good hit across his face before he landed and bounced back for more.
"Yeah, what you gonna' do," Berach teased from the sidelines, "Crazy cat tail all up in your face, ooooh." He glanced across the arena at Hana, eyebrows raised, and nodded. "Isn't gonna' be much of a fight. I mean. Just look at how ferocius Kafka is. I'm very sorry for your loss."

Fang snorted at Kafka's stupidity. It is so a word, imbecile! He was ready to go when Kafka attacked.
"Do your thing, Fang," Hana said. It wasn't an order (Fang wouldn't have listened to those) but an acknowledgement that Fang could hold his own. She merely wanted to wipe the sneer away on Raleigh's face. This fight was in the bag.
Fang couldn't stop the Fox Tail attack, but he was sure going to make Kafka uncomfortable doing it! Baby Breath! It wasn't a particularly powerful attack - he still couldn't produce flames on command - but it was enough to heat up the air around Kafka to a scorching degree. The Fox Tail did knock him across the face in the end, knocking him back a bit, but that was fine. He needed the distance for his next attack. "Tail Smash!" He began to spin his body, prepared to deliver a powerful blow with his tail. The one thing about Fang's fighting was that when he got serious, he got serious - no witty remarks or smart-alecking to be had. But at this point he wasn't even paying attention to what was happening with the other Digimon, just that he'd be knocking him against the wall.
Hana Smirked back at Raleigh. "Think your little kitten can really take on Fang? Then let's up the stakes - you buy us dinner if we lose. I'm not even gonna say what we'll do if we lose since we won't!" She tossed her head proudly, looking excitedly at her digimon. "GO FANG!" she cheered loudly. He didn't need that much direction from her - she trained him solidly and trusted in Fang's ability to fight.
But what would really, really push their advantage would be if they could activate Fang's most powerful attack, G Shurunen. It was an attack that they hadn't really figured out how to work (YET), but if Fang could manage it, it would be a one-shot deal, giving them a nice and easy win.

Kafka's Fox Tail didn't seem to do much to Fang -- Raleigh handn't honestly been expecting it to, but it was still a let-down. Part of him wanted to just forfeit the battle and leave; he knew it wasn't worth it... But he wasn't the sort of person to do that, and, besides, he wasn't sure Hana would let him live it down if he tried to walk out. Kafka, for all his bravado, squeaked in pain at Fang's Baby Breath -- the concentrated huff of scalding breath caught his tail ablaze and he retreated, yowling, as his fur smoked.
Raleigh rolled his eyes and slumped against the railing of his observation deck, barely able to keep his eyes on the fight. "Fine, deal," he called back, waving his hand dismissively, "I hope you're okay with fast food."
Kafka caught Fang's tail full-on, his attention drawn away from dodging by the flame spreading up his tail: The attack slung him into the wall and he cried out, pitiful, and drew a disappointed frown from Raleigh. The tamer glanced up at the statistics running across the screen, boasting his less-than-stellar win/loss record, and he was almost embarassed -- the fighting was no longer worth it, if he couldn't win; Kafka was just too weak to be much of a threat to anyone.
The sparks dancing across Kafka's fur grew more intense, smoke billowing black and thick, before breaking into full-on flame that enwreathed his tiny body. Raleigh leaned forward, confusion easily read in his attentive scowl -- he squinted at his digimon, attempting to figure out what had happened (and wondering if maybe he should run and get an extinguisher).
His D-touched whined in his pocket, but he ignored it -- Kafka was glowing now, tiny strips of data whirling around him even as the fire grew larger: Was he digivolving?
And if a good thrashing was all it took, why hadn't he digivolved earlier than this... ?
He pressed himself up against the railing, jaw hanging open, and watched as Kafka's body became a point of pulsing white light; as limb-shapes formed and began to solidify; as the fire grew and raced along his tail, burst from between his eyes--
The fire blinked out and the newly-evolved Flamon dropped lightly to the ground, and Raleigh's D-touch finally stopped shaking. Well.
"About time," he cheered, picking at invisible lint on his shoulder, "Just like we planned, of course. Keep away from the Dracomon!" (He stuck his tongue out at Hana for good measure.)
( Uh, uh, ) Kafka searched for an attack, seemingly distracted by his new limbs -- and gloves, ooh, fancy -- to focus on the battle. ( ... Ah! Flame Toss! )
He hopped backwards, wincing -- and Raleigh noticed, grimacing himself as he wondered how many more hits he could take -- and summoned a handful of flame. With a wild grin and a lewd hand gesture to Fang, he hurled the fire in the tiny dragon's direction before rolling backwards, (hopefully) out of Fang's range.

Hana was busy celebrating her victory... potentially preemptively, it seemed. Her eyes widened as Kafka Digivolved, right there during the battle! Oh, dear. Well, even with that, Dracomon had gotten a solid beginning. Even so, he was down one attack, and that put them at a disadvantage. Fang would still have to watch himself as well. "Rush him! He's still injured from before!" Hana called out.
Fang did his own thing, but wasn't above taking orders in a pinch. The flames passed by, singing his scales, but still wasn't much to faze him at this point in the game. He started whirling again. TAIL SMASH He was going all-out with this one. Fang wanted to win, and he wanted to win at any cost.
Now all that was left to see was whether it would be enough. With this upgrade, the fight might last longer than they had expected... and Hana was feeling hungry.

Berach, recovered from the shock of having Kafka evolve mid-battle, slouched up against the railing and non-chalantly fiddled with his D-touch. Couldn't be looking too worked up and ruin his image, especially in front of a pretty girl -- not to mention the audience (who were similarly impressed, he noted with a smirk). "Try and keep your distance, Kaf," he advised, but, like Fang, Kafka wasn't listening. (Berach secretly enjoyed the independence. Less work for him.)
Snarling -- even his voice was different, Berach noticed, rougher; deeper -- Kafka's tail sparked and burst into flame. The fire, white-hot at the center, spread quickly to shroud the Flamon's small frame. A feral yell tore up through his open maw, ( Noble Heart! ), and Kafka all but threw himself foward to meet Fang's attack.
"Hey! So what happens when I win," he shouted across the arena, eyebrows quirked, "'Cause it looks like scaley here is goin' down."
ooc| hmm. i hope that was okay -- i don't think i was powerplaying or anything, but if you'd rather i say the dragon tail hit before i have kafka attack, i understand. xD i'm planning on having kafka get slammed into the ground next post if that helps at all

Hana grit her teeth as Kafka made to attack Fang at the same time Fang was attacking. She winced - hard - when they clashed. It sounded particularly nasty, with a sizzling sound that only made her think of cooking meat. She hoped that Fang wasn't injured too badly, but it was one she kept because the alternative was pretty bad. Raleigh's shout about what he would win rang in her ears. "Whatever you want. Doesn't matter because Fang and I still have a chance!" ... She hoped.
The flames had scorched Fang's body, but not nearly as badly as it sounded. Nevertheless, between the hit and the flames, a good portion of his side had been burned. But most of all... a certain scale had been hit in the attack. G Shurunen! was the cry that came bursting forth, hit horns glowing at full strength. Rage fulled Fang, far more than he had ever been angered before. It fueled a beam that emitted from the back of his mouth. His anger meant that he had no control or care over where it hit or who it hit.
This was it! The attack they couldn't harness the last time they had tried it! And it was still as unstable as ever. She closed her eyes and turned away, too worried to look at what was happening. It wasn't strong enough to bring down the house, but whomever it hit was gonna hurt after. At the same time, she was also regretting that she had made the best with Raleigh. Seemed he was gonna win, and Hana had no idea what he'd ask for with 'whatever he wanted'. Probably would make her clean up his room or something. A fate worse than death!
OOC: It's just fine. I worry that I might be powerplaying a bit. At this point, you can write anything - that Fang's tail hit before Kafka's attack and that the beam went wild, or that his tail didn't hit at all but the beam did.

Whether he wanted to keep a cool affect or not, Berach could not help but find his interest drawn to the battle. Now that Kafka was stronger; now that he commanded flame; now that the opponents were just as strong... it was more to take in. More destruction; more movement, and Berach liked it.
(He would have to find some back-alley fights to get into -- anything but these Pandora events. He disliked the corporate aspect to it, and was even ashamed that he'd bought into it at first, but he certainly understood the allure. Even moreso, now, as he watched the flames dance on the battlefield.)
Fang and Kafka collided, cracking together like a gunshot -- Berach actually flinched -- and as Kafka fell back, staggering and pale, he knew the battle was lost. He knew it was lost before Fang hissed and fired off the wild beam of energy of his next attack: He saw Kafka step backwards and fall, still weak from the assault he withstood as Nyaromon.
The G. Shurunen was a powerful bolt (Ber could almost feel how difficult it was to hold from his place outside the arena), and though it struck Kafka glancingly, it was enough to scatter data and kick him soundly back to his in-training stage.
Once again Nyaromon, the tiny digimon rolled backward from the force of the attack like tumbleweed in the wind, smacking against the wall once more with a pained squeak. The screen above, monitoring health points, blared to announce the end of the match, and Berach shuffled forward to scoop the digimon up into his arms.
"Good enough," he 'soothed' the creature, "You'll get better." Turning to Hana, eyebrows raised, he added: "So where would you like to eat, dear lady?"
ooc| sorry for the delay Dx

Hana heard the roar of the spectators as the beam went off. What did that mean? WHAT DID THAT MEAN?! She glanced behind her, afraid of what she'd see. And then she saw that Kafka had devolved and the announcers were declaring the end of the match. She started at it for a moment, a little in shock.
Then she began cheering. "Oh, yeah! Wooo-hoooo!" She ran out to Fang and lifted him up, cuddling him. "You did a great job, Fang! Congrats!" She heard Raleigh's question and turned to look at him with a smile. "Somewhere where there's food!" She trotted over with Fang in her arms.
Fang was also rather exhausted so he didn't complain about being carried. But he did look up at Raleigh and make his own opinion known. Sushi. Something dead and raw, thankyouverymuch. He looked over at Nyaromon. Not too shabby when you leveled up. I want a rematch when you're better." He went silent again, not in a mood to talk again at the moment.
Hana leaned down to talk to Kafka as well. "Yeah you were pretty good. I was actually thinking that we'd lose, with that digivolve! If Raleigh's ever up for it again and you're up for it, might be fun to give it another go." She gave him a smile before tilting her head at the exit. "Sushi it is!" She had no compunction or guilt over making Raleigh pay - or having won - but did sincerely hope Kafka would feel better soon. He was a spirited little thing indeed.
