Her mother had no photos of him and never knew his family. She has always been infatuated with mermaids and stories about them. When she was ten her mother bought a computer, something they hadn't been able to afford until that point. Ran was forbade from using it because she had gotten detention at school. However she waited till night and tried to play it. While playing it she accidentally split her water on the keyboard. During the confusion she was pulled into the digital world. She met her partner and other children there. During her adventure she was burned by a digimon who used a flame attack on her, the scar still remains. She also met her future wife during this time, Kohana Fuji. The two of them eventually escaped the digital world, the pair lived on opposite sides of Japan, but they stayed in contact. Eventually the Pandora organization began making trouble in the digital world, the two of them set about stopping Pandora by raiding the "digi-farm", however in the process the two were caught. They were beaten by the security and eventually woke up in a back alley stripped of all their possessions, they have never seen their digimon partners since then. Ran and Kohana continued on with their lives, protesting the public plans of Pandora and trying to tell their story, however they never seemed to be able to be heard. Disappointed with how people seemed to take to the barbaric sport that Pandora created they gave up hope. The girls eventually had a private wedding ceremony, and even though they aren't legally wed, they still live together. Ran started working at a Mermaid Bar when she was old enough, which is a bar where women dressed as topless mermaids entertain men while drinking. Her exceptional swimming and breath holding allowed her to become one of the most loved women there, much to Kohana's dismay. One day as a present she received a D-Touch and a Digimon from her mother as a gift. She initially hated the very idea of it, but she couldn't turn it away, and after a long discussion with Kohana they decided to keep it.
