LYRICS ❝secret smile❞ by rascal flatts | [atrb=vAlign,top][atrb=style,background-color: #FDFDFD;] ■ IT WAS EARLY EVENING, the sun was ready to fall bellow the horizon and allow the moon to truly shine. buildings and streets were being lit up by lamps and torches and various other forms of artificial light, the sky having already grown dim. many didn't like the dimness that accompanied sunset, they found it to be creepy or frightening, be unable to see things clearly. it wasn't a rule, of course, just a general consensus. something that applied to many, but not all. a rule of thumb, rather than a rule of law. it was, perhaps, why the streets near the shrine were so empty, void of the usual traffic that visited the sacred grounds.
riley was one amongst the few, someone who didn't find the vanishing light to be frightening or creepy. to the contrary, she quite liked the dimness of it. the solitary streets, the quiet air. no crying children, no hushed whispers, no yells of entertainment. just a silence broken only by the footsteps of those brave enough to venture out, strong enough to get close to the shrine.
continuing when she reached the gates of meiji shrine, boots leaving a stony echo in her wake, she climbed the steps like nothing could touch her. what was there for her to fear? for anyone to fear? ghosts were nothing more than tales told to children to keep them tucked in at night. zombies were a fiction enjoyed by teenagers and young adults. there was nothing spooky about a shrine. her companion seemed to think differently, as he shivered despite being tucked into her black jacket. it wasn't the chill, she realized; the tiny creature was scared.
the bluenette, majority of her short, boy-cut, hair hidden beneath a blue and black cap, scratched the fresh digimon's head. the shivering aside, the young digital monster played to role of 'stuffed animal' perfectly. always did, too. and if they were met with another, he'd no doubt force his shivering to cease. such a thing had been the first she'd taught him, knowing that it was best he be kept as secret as possible. only her siblings and cousins, so far, knew that the little guy was very much alive.
letting her hand drop back to her side, she settled down on one of the many benches. all of the shops were closed, she seemed to be the only one there. it was peaceful. it was the perfect place to get away from everything. everyone. a lovely place to relax and enjoy the fresh air. taking a deep breath, she let herself relax against the wooden seat, cobalt eyes moving to look up at the ever darkening blue sky.

there had always been something about sunsets that changed the mood. one moment you could be arguing with your best friend but the minute that sunset hits your eyes you begin to fall into a calming trance. almost like hypnosis but more romantic. the sight was wondrous at the moment but quickly passed by once she awoke from her slumber. the day was quiet and relaxing, with nothing exciting happening from the morning she woke up till her annual walk around the city. as usual this had been her last stop before angel walked back to her place in the busy city.
"shit, it's been silent all day...and that's never a good thing." true, the day was ready to be over and most likely her night would involve her completing her nightly exercises and crawling into bed, riding the waves to dreamland. even with the recent arrival of her new partner, things still seemed dull in the popular city. glancing at her digimon who was busy examining a nearby trash can. the metalkoromon glared at the empty bin and this caused the lady to raise an eyebrow. "and what exactly are you doing chronos?" angel questioned the little guy, knowing good and well that the creature hasn't said anything since they met. although she never found if it refused to speak because he just didn't like her or that it couldn't talk. whatever the case, the young lady knew exactly what she'd do with the digimon once it got stronger. top of the fighting ranks, that's where she wanted to be.
the chrome digimon stared at the trash bin for another minute before it finally decided to make contact with it. in an instant the creature slammed into the can, causing it to fall over and spill trash all around the surrounding area. grunting to herself, angel walked away from the accident, pretending that she had found the bin like that. the fall must have startled metalkoromon, seeing as he was now zooming down the sidewalk. looking more closely, up ahead she noticed a blue haired girl laying back on one of the benches aligned down the sidewalk. "damn, appears that chronos might bump into that girl up there. at least i'll have some excitement today." she muttered to herself as she casually made her way to her partner.

LEGEND "dialog" , 'thought' ; riley , gale , other
LYRICS ❝secret smile❞ by rascal flatts | [atrb=vAlign,top][atrb=style,background-color: #FDFDFD;] ■ IT WAS JUST SO PEACEFUL, not a sound but for the wind blowing through the leaves on the trees. the gentle rustling of the greenery was like a lullaby. soothing. her eyelids began to droop, slowly falling closed as her vision of the sky began to blur and grow dimmer. the sky was a dark blue, orange weaving through it and masking the glow of the stars, a few twinkling balls off fire dancing directly above. then it was completely dark.
only moments had passed, a few minutes perhaps, before she was startled from her dreamless reverie. she jerked forward, hat falling forward to slip over her forehead. her heart was pounding and she couldn't decide if she'd actually been dreaming, and had awoken because of it, or if the noise had been real. with a slightly heavy sigh, she moved a hand to rest over her chest, just above the tiny creature that still shivered in her care. the beating slowed as she looked around, seeing nothing particularly threatening about her surroundings. everything seemed the same as before.
suddenly, botamon froze. the vibrations of his shivering form ceased, causing the girl to look down at him. was it a him? there was no indication of the creatures gender, it hadn't spoken even once since it had hatched from the egg. riley had come to the conclusion that it simply didn't know how to speak, it being so small and young. though she had managed to train it rather well, and it must have been a naturally well behaved and relaxed creature, she hadn't been able to teach it even a single word. 'it must not learn to talk the way we do...' the vague thought crossed the bluenette's mind, flitting back out as quickly as it had come.
riley knew that someone, or something, must have been nearby. it was the only reason the digital monster ever completely stopped moving. unless it was her brothers or cousins, the botamon knew that it was okay to move around and such around them. her attention was diverted soon after, eyes lifting to look at a small creature dashing in her direction. she couldn't completely make it out in the dimness of the early night, the shadows of the trees covering the path in darkness. her cobalt eyes widened as the thing got closer, finally making out that it must have been a creature like her own rather than a cat like may have initially crossed her mind.
and it didn't look like the metallic creature was planning to stop either. she had to wonder where it had come from, who it was with, why it was coming straight at her that way. did it have anything to do with the noise that had roused her before? would it hurt if it collided with her legs, as it's current trajectory indicated it would, or would it be soft and, perhaps, squishy like her new friend? the sheen on it's form hinted at the former and as the creature neared yet more she moved her legs in attempt to avoid any sort of impact.

As the sun finished settling and the moon shined it’s heavenly silver lights, things had finally calmed down. Although her little friend had found some fun in knocking over a trash can, Angel wasn’t too amused at the sight. Currently, as she was walking over to the girl sitting on the bench, there was a huge debate going on in her head about whether or not she should go back and clean up the mess her partner left. She never really cared about the environment, but littering wasn’t something she did on purpose. An accident is an accident, so it shouldn’t be her responsibility to clean it up. After coming to a conclusion, Angel glanced forward and as she grew closer to the blue haired girl she was able to get a better look at her. Hanging around her neck was a pair of headphones, and up close the hair could easily be defined as a dark shade of blue. She wasn’t half bad looking, might have a boyfriend buy you never know.
Turning her attention to the MetalKoromon zooming ahead of her, she hoped that the little guy didn’t get in any trouble. It’s not that she doesn’t like trouble, just today was just one of those days where you don’t need to be stressed out. Thankfully the girl lifted her feet up before Chronos could crash into them, but the digimon failed to put on the brakes and still sailed a few feet past the chick before coming to a stop. Angel caught up to her partner and the girl on the bench, she gave the youngling a glare before addressing her. “Don’t know what got into him, something must have scared him crazy.” The female said and then reached down to Chronos and picked him up, cuddling him in her arms.
There wasn’t much that she wanted to do afterwards; the chick was never in the mood to make any friends. Money would be here only pal for the next few years, hopefully this career as a professional digimon fighter will kick start and the next thing she knows she’ll be swimming in dough. Just the thought of that made her bring out a small snicker. Coming back to reality, Angel decided to end her day seeing as nothing else exciting would be happening any time soon. Turning around, the female started walking away, paying no mind to the girl whom her digimon almost got into a wreck with.

LYRICS ❝secret smile❞ by rascal flatts | [atrb=vAlign,top][atrb=style,background-color: #FDFDFD;] ■ SHE'D AVOIDED IT, the collision that is. the digimon shot past her and traveled a bit further before coming to a stop. the bluenette's eyes had followed the tiny creature, watching it's frantic escape from... whatever it had been running from. her attention was draw away from the metallic animal, though her eyes remained upon the metalkoromon, when the sound of footsteps reached her ears.
when the foot falls had gotten close enough, riley lifted her gaze to the human standing before her. the owner of the little digimon, she decided. a few words later, the woman took the creature into her arms and riley had to wonder, again, if it was soft and squishy like her own companion was. her thoughts remained unvoiced, as they so often did, only a quiet "oh" slipping off her tongue.
she didn't know how else to respond to what was said. though she guessed the creature had been startled by the sound she'd heard a bit before, it wasn't really her place to ask about it. so she stayed quiet, even as the woman turned and began to leave. many questions filtered through her mind, though none were particularly important and none were any sort of conversation starter. nor was riley the type to initiate small talk or anything of the like. her blue eyes fell to rest upon the ground, listening to the retreating foot steps and the rustle of the leaves.
